Dr. Kimber Simmons is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. Her research career is focused on characterizing individuals from ethnically diverse populations who are in both early and clinical stages of type 1 diabetes and translating research findings into clinical practice. She leads the Ask the Experts Program, which serves a national resource for type 1 diabetes confirmation and monitoring of children who have a positive screening test. Recognizing the need for informed guidance when interpreting screening tests, she holds a grant to compare autoantibody results between the most utilized clinical islet autoantibody laboratories in the United States. As one of the primary investigators for the BDC Prevention Team, she is also an active investigator in type 1 diabetes prevention and intervention trials. Finally, she directs the early type 1 diabetes clinic and clinical immunotherapy program at the Barbara Davis Center where patients are evaluated for and administered early stage T1D immunotherapies (i.e., teplizumab).
