Dr. Yael Tobi Harris, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and serves as the Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. During her fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Northwell, she also obtained a PhD in Molecular Medicine investigating the nervous system control of insulin resistance with the goal of discovering novel ways to treat obesity and diabetes. Recent areas of research—funded by the NIH and PCORI—include examining the relationship between disease-beliefs and adherence to diabetes self-care activities in Breast cancer survivors with type 2 diabetes; and studying the impact of Telehealth on diabetes self-care and outcomes in Latinx patients with type 2 diabetes. Clinically, a major focus of hers is in optimizing diabetes care in the hospital setting.
